The Richmond Folk Festival returns this Friday (Oct. 7) through Sunday, and — as always — it offers a plethora of incredible musical and artistic variety and discovery that never disappoints.

Let’s be honest, before the Folk Festival began in 2005, few of us in these parts had ever seen throat-singers from the Himalayas, Aleppian wasla music from Syria, Ethiopian Azmari music and dance, Dominican merengue, or witnessed a dozen people on stage perform Brazilian Capoeira (a dance art that combines music, acrobatics, martial arts, and spirituality) that literally drove people to tears of joy.
