ALT #1 — OFF THE BEATEN PATH: Candlelit and Contemporary
David Timberline at Style Weekly features an illuminating story on the Candlelight Concerts that have been taking place at the Bolling Haxall House downtown that feature the stage that is an opulent Italianate mansion built in 1858 lit only by candlelight while a a string quartet that plays songs of contemporary artists.
The building is the home to The Woman’s Club and executive director Leighann Boland said the response to the free concerts has been excellent.
“It’s just gorgeous,” she said. “You can enjoy a concert with the music of an artist like Taylor Swift or Pink Floyd in this beautiful setting. The house shines when it has people in it.”
Some of the other upcoming concerts include the quartets playing the music of Coldplay, Queen, Adele, Nirvana, Beyonce, and more.
According to Timberline, The Candlelight Concert idea started in Europe but the live-event development and discovery platform Fever brought it to America in 2019 with a show in New York. Since then, the company has expanded the series to over 100 cities across the country. Fever’s Richmond project manager, Peter Sourbis, says that Bolling Haxall House matches the event profile perfectly.
