Back in 2022 and 2023, Richmond was not the only city facing a dilemma about building a new baseball stadium. There is another city with a AA franchise that was discussing a new stadium in order to meet the minimum facility standards imposed by Major League Baseball (MLB); it would be paid for mostly by surrounding new development, be ready to open in 2025, and was originally was expected to cost about $80 million — but has since ballooned to $115 million.
