5x5 Definition

A radio transmission signal quality is measured by 5’s. “5x5” means there is a strong and clear signal.

===========================

This weekly newsletter will offer you valuable information and analysis of of news in our City and region to keep you informed so our future is brighter than our past. Each week there will be a focus on important stories you might otherwise miss in the dwindling media landscape, with original reporting, a medley of sources, opinion, and commentary.

You will also have access to deeper dives into the complex issues that you see or read about but may not know some of the finer details, both good and bad. Our City and region and the issues that push us forward and hold us back require constant sunshine, the best disinfectant.

This covers Richmond as it is, not how it could be or some want you to believe it is. Hard, and honest truths are the way our City gets better and addresses our challenges and celebrates our successes. Groupthink, doesn’t; honest conversation moves the needle and clears the road for progress.

Trust in so many of our institutions is at a low level - trust in political leaders, media, institutions, and others. I hope to create a regular and reliable source of information for you to be able to use and trust based on honest and insightful analysis that assists in your action and involvement in our future. I have always put this City first and will continue to do so and hope to earn your trust to make this a better and brighter city for everyone.

Who is RVA 5x5?

My life has been all Richmond. Born and raised, I wrote a popular City-focused blog from 2004-2009, worked for Mayors Doug Wilder and Levar Stoney, served on City Council and in the Department of Planning and Development, co-founded the RVA Street Art Festival, and been a huge supporter of the creative and artistic community in Richmond for many years.
